Chicago in the summer equals sun, sips and sweet songs and this year the Taste of Chicago was no exception. Thanks to the Illinois Lottery's VIP experience my friend and I were able to enjoy the Erykah Badu concert with 1st class views and decadent food, because Anything's Possible.
Before we filled our soul with Erykah Badu's expressive tunes, we were able to fill our stomach's with a colorful and delicious meal that matched the energy of the crowd. Juicy chicken and mini fish tacos were the main course, but mango salsa, guac and more leveled this meal up into a VIP experience.
After finishing off our plates (and going for seconds) it was time to get ready for some summer in the city tunes. To get the crowd going we were treated to a funky brass band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. The talent and love for music was evident and the whole crowd was jamming to the soulful timbre of the trombone and trumpet. It left us all satisfied and ready for the main act, Erykah Badu.
With her signature hat and feathered shawl Erykah Badu wowed the crowd with her emotionally charged performance at the Petrillo Stage. I love that she brought back classics like "Love of My Life", but also sang some of her newer hits. It was a great mix of old and new and there was not a single soul that didn't get up and dance. We all left with lingering dance moves and leftover smiles.
It was the perfect night to bring out my 90s Luinchiny Platforms (thanks Ebay!). Thanks again to the Illinois Lottery for such a great night. I can't wait until the Taste is back next year!
