So Shoe Me ~ 2/29/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Invisible Shoe by Andreia Chaves, $4,000, available at Solestruck. If you go by the name alone this may seem a modern "Emperor's New Clothes" scheme to pay $4,000 for an "invisible" wedge but scroll up and stare at these mirrored handmade (to order!) beauties and you'll know that sometimes invisible is a tangible investment. Brazilian designer Andreia Chaves is known for avant garde designs which combine innovative materials and shapes in a wearable design. The Invisible Shoe truly reflects Chaves' design sensibilities and becomes a fashion forward camouflage since the mirrored upper transforms into its surroundings. A true work of art this shoe can and should be displayed 24/7 and worn with extreme care and caution. The angles of the glass accents and shoe itself add more interest and craftsmanship into this exquisite wedge. Even though us 99% won't be making a statement in these modern day glass slippers anytime soon it's still fun to daydream about the endless possibilities these fashion forward heels hold. Pair these shining silver wedges with a silk white maxi gown with a thigh high slit for an elegant way to show off these statement making stunners.

So Shoe Me a pair of major mirrored wedges that change to become the environment I step into, making them the coolest camouflage around.

So Shoe Me ~ 2/28/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Daul Floral Shoes by Pixie Market X Jeffrey Campbell, $139, available at Pixie Market. I love an exclusive design and a cool Lucite heel so it's no surprise I'm now searching under my couch cushions for loose change in order to bring these hot high heels home. Delicate on trend floral print plastic straps are juxtaposed with edgy black leather and a modern crystal clear Lucite heel creating a mix of textures and styles that somehow just works. The 4" Lucite heel is the perfect height for keeping your head above the crowds but has the comfort and stability to ease your fear of breaking an ankle with one wrong step. Grounded by luxe leather and lifted by light floral prints and clear heels this exclusive heel is a sound investment for spring. Pair these heels with pastel geometric print jeans (I prefer this pair from Rag & Bone) and a perforated white leather tank for the perfect mix of sporty and feminine.

So Shoe Me a pair of heels that make a clear statement with a luxe Lucite heel, urban black leather and a flirty floral print for an on trend shoe that will lift up any style.

So Shoe Me ~ 2/22/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Gentry-E by Zalo By Ramon Tenza, $155, available at Lori's Shoes. Velvet smoking slippers are no longer just for Hugh. Last fall this easy and comfortable shape became on of the hottest new footwear trends and sleek slippers were still all the rage for show goers during NYFW (via The Cut). Several high end designers have taken the simple velvet slipper and added signature embroidery to add a personal touch to this versatile style but with prices upwards of $400 it seriously deducts from the statement heel budget, which really isn't a viable option for shoe hoarders like us. But I may have hit the jackpot with these velvet grosgrain trim slippers by Zalo by Ramon Tanza. They have the same high quality finishes at a fraction of the price of similar high end options and the embroidered elephant adds an unexpected bit of fun to turn this old man's comfort shoe into a fashion forward flat. Pair these chic embroidered smoking slippers with a pair of printed straight leg pants (tribal, striped, floral, whatever fits your style best) and a sheer button down for an easy sophisticated spring outfit.

So Shoe Me  a pair of personality filled loafers that will add a cool sensibility to my low budget, high fashion style.

So Shoe Me ~ 2/21/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Pusher II by Jeffrey Campbell, $204, available at Karmaloop. It's that 70s style with a funky chunky platform and pastel patchwork suede. It may take a few blocks to get used to strutting around at your new vantage point but after the initial awkwardness this 6.5" heel and 4.5" platform will become on of your most confortable wedges since it will feel like you're walking in 2" heels. A velcro ankle strap adds stabilility and wearability to this towering wedge so that you're less likely to take a tragic (ego-deflating) tumble. This zigzag patchwork design has been seen in other JC styles, but I love how it gives your wardrobe a spring in its step with on trend pastels and a minimal upper. Pair these gigantic wedges with a pair of retro high waisted bell bottom jeans, a tucked in tee and a fitted pastel floral blazer for a fresh spring style,

So Shoe Me a pair of suede patchwork wedges with a skyscraping platform that will keep my head high and feet on solid ground.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Studded Woven Huarache Sandals by Tristan Blair, $216, available at Pixie Market. I love a good tribal detail but sometimes if it's too loud in size and/or color you can lose a bit of versatility. But with these woven leather sandals in strong neutral tones by Tristan Blair you get the best of both worlds; a wearable black flat with an on trend tribal embellishment at the front. Woven rust leather laces mixed with silver studs adds just enough interest and still remains a casual option that can be worn from day to night. Pair these everyday sandals with a simple black maxi dress with a high side slit and minimal silver jewelry.

So Shoe Me a pair of tribal embellished sandals that add a signature statement while still remaining a versatile neutral that can I can wear with just about anything in my closet.

BRANDwagon: get your HANDS on Dimepiece Designs

These days it's not easy to find a streetwise clothing line that fits all shapes, sizes and budgets but somehow in an industry full of mediocrity Dimepiece Designs reaches all the above criteria and beyond. Co-founded in 2007 by Ashley Jones and Laura Fama Dimepiece Designs was developed as a tongue and cheek clothing line to celebrate and empower women with cheeky graphics and edgy silhouettes that will give every Dimepiece girl a sense of confidence and a powerful style. Influenced by pop art prints and cultural themes creates the must-have styles that attract celebs such as Fergie, Cassie and Chloe Sevigny but still delivers budget friendly prices to make sure their label is attainable to the masses.

This Monday (2/20/2012) make sure to head over to the Dimepiece Designs website to become on of the first to preorder from their new Spring 2012 collection. Featuring bold neons, modern florals and their iconic provocative graphics it's the perfect time to stock up on some springtime street ware.

One of my favorite Dimepiece Designs pieces, the "Hands Off" crop top offers cheeky leather hands at the chest over a mesh fabric that can show as much or little skin as you desire. The perfect conversation piece I've worn this piece to festivals, bars and house parties alike and received plenty of compliments from both sexes.

A sneak peak of Dime Piece Designs newest collection proves to be its biggest and best yet. I have my eyes on the modern tropical separates, some neon graphic knits, grunge worthy plaids and high-slit maxis.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Spike Soft by Cheap Monday, $185, available at Solestruck. Cheap Monday hit the nail on the head with a heel that combines high end modern design with a vintage 90s edge. A super soft black leather upper with just the right amount of wear is contrasted with a nude leather strap, wooden sole and a pin thin metal heel giving new life to the 90s mule. The industrial thin metal heels add an unexpected edge and jaw-dropping silhouette. With distressed elements and a sleek shape this heel can be worn from day to night without fear of making a style misstep. Quality, comfort and an uncompromised design will make you wonder how Cheap Monday does it all while remaining budget friendly. Pair these thin heeled mules with a cutout t-shirt dress and a vintage leather trench for an easy grunge style.

So Shoe Me ~ 2/18/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Yelena by Sam Edelman, $140, available at Piperlime. This season mixing metallics with natural nudes is the new neutral to pair with pretty pastels and bold brights. Thick modern straps in liquid silver and luxe nude leather add a fresh finish to this block heel sandal. At 3.5" the sturdy leather wrapped heel is the perfect height and shape for adding a fashionable lift but staying comfortable throughout the day and night. The genius of the upper half being nude is that it will lengthen your legs and magically take a couple inches off of your frame, and isn't that the goal of every sane woman?! The minimal buckle closure adds the finishing touch to this modern must-have heel. Pair these shoes with a minimal long-sleeved mini dress in a bright tangerine hue for the perfect dressed up summer outfit.

So Shoe Me a pair of chunky heeled sandals with liquid metallic accents that will become a modern new neutral addition to my spring/summer wardrobe.

So Shoe Me ~ 2/17/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the Andrea by Miista, $229, available at City Soles. I always love a good woven Aztec detail on any shoe but I especially fell for the tan leather and colorful stitched boots from this fall and winter which had a vintage charm and a luxe comfortable design. But boots aren't going to get me through the heat and humidity of spring and summer so imagine my excitement when I found these lace-up shootie versions by Miista at City Soles. Handcrafted in Spain these luxe leather shoes are made with attention to detail and care so they'll last season after season. The statement making Aztec design adds a pop of color and style enhancing texture. Pair these rich leather shooties with a delicate white cotton or silk a-line dress to juxtapose the indie spirit of these lace-ups with the airy feel of a lightweight summer dress.

So Shoe Me a pair of boho leather lace-up shooties with a bold woven Aztec detail that will inspire my personal style this spring.

FALLing for NYFW: A Review of FW12

Another season of New York Fashion Week (officially Mercedes Benz Fashion Week) has flown by and while I'm looking forward to the hot heat of summer at least I have a list of trends to look for a winter collections head to the clearance racks. The 90s influences are here to stay with bright colors, punk patterns and oversized but minimal silhouttes. There was also a return to ladylike looks from the 50s and 60s turned modern in graphic black and white and unexpected brights. Keeping warm will be down with plaid capes, metallic fitted pea coats and oversized leather and shearling moto jackets. Pair outerwear with bright complimentary accessories as the new way to colorblock in 2012. Below are my favorite collections from NYFW: FW2012. I hope you fall hard for these fun, fresh and luxurious looks.

1) Don't Have a Cow, Man! It's only Fashion.

Jeremy Scott is always know for his fun and quirky collections and the kaleidoscope brights, iconic character knits and pixelated emoticon patterns made for a not-so-serious collection with serious must-have separates. A metallic tie dye flower power skirt had the feeling of a 90s style inspired by the free love 70s - super trippy and truly signature. More wearable pieces were the Bart Simpson and Emoticon knits which conjured up nostalgia with a 90s punk twist. Behind the colorful crimped wigs and over the top makeup there was a wearable collection mixed within a fantasy wonderland.

2) Chic on the Street

Proenza Schouler mixed street style with luxurious textiles and an underlying oriental theme to create one of the most talked about shows this season. Playing with proportions from fitted chain mail skirts to oversized leather trousers there was a signature Proenza piece (or pieces ) within every look. The look was street wear oriented with a sophisticated finish making it the perfect collection for a wide range of styles, shapes and ages. With leather, more leather, silk satin and chains Proenza Schouler created the best street ready collection for Fall 2012.

3) Something to Rave About

Leather, color, fluffy furs and bold graffiti colors gave The Blonds a rave ready collection mixed with a barbie moto chic edge. Platinum blond Rapunzel length ponytails coming out of shiny helmets added to the fantasy of a colorful and metallic underworld. While not the most wearable collection take inspiration from The Blonds with woven metal accents, colorful retro graffiti prints and corseted leather silhouettes for a party friendly fall wardrobe.

4) Glam Cabin

Michael Kors was mad about plaid in a collection that featured cozy separates and easy glam gowns. Cozy cabin knits in luxe chunky fabrications added a simple sophistication in wearable shapes. Oversized outerwear in plaids and fur made for the perfect signature toppers against marled knits and leather accessories. A rich colorway of camel, black and bright red is easy to emulate come fall so stock up on some versatile separates for your own cabin glam.

5) Femme Bot

Feminine shapes and fabrics mixed with modern claw gloves created a new "new look" for fall. On trend metallic and glittering accents were seen in sequin skirts and jeweled necklines. A slightly pointed toe pump with a low heel added to the ladylike appeal of Chris Benz's newest collection. The full bowed skirts in a chic tea length are a great piece to pick up for an unexpected alternative to the LBD. Collect white and cream separates to pair with brights and neon pastels for a fresh fall look that still remains rich and cozy.

6) The Modern Lady

Alice and Olivia brought us 50s and 60s silhouettes with a modern touch due to colors, prints and styling. With edgy looks that still remain uber feminine Alice and Olivia is the go-to contemporary designer for the perfect party dress or flirty separates for when we want to show off our girly side. Full mini skirts and knee length dresses reiterated the trend of volume and an accented waist. One of my favorite pieces was a multi-colored sequin trophy jacket that could become your signature blazer this fall.

7) A Volume of Work

Varying degrees of volume and color were key trends at the Milly FW12 show. A cylindrical skirt on a hot pink hued tank dress created an inventive new shape for fall. Rich leathers in bold shades added a sleek style to be layered or worn bare depending on the season. Colorblock with neutrals, neons and muted brights for a well-thought out signature style.

8) Need a Hand?

90s minimalism mixed with graphic prints made Diane von Furstenberg an easy collection to fall in love with. Easy draping that will flatter almost every body shape created a versatile collection to invest in. The mix of magenta, teal and red was a new eye catching palette to try out right now. I especially loved the muted lavender mixed with brown and red for a luxe and sophisticated colorway. Remember to shop for simple draped jersey dresses and stand-out graphic prints for a cool and comfortable style this fall.

9) The Mad Hatter

We all drank the potion and ended up in Wonderland. Over-the-top furry hats were paired with overzied knits, unexpected proportions, powerful paisley prints and shining neon sequins. Ankle socks that would make Alice proud were paired with buckled block heels making me wonder if these shoes (especially the bright metallics) will be the next oxford. And one thing to DIY next season is an extra long chunky shawl or homemade knit tied with an oversized bobby pin for a new way to layer in cool fall weather.

10) A(luxe)ander Wang

I think we can all agree we all love the Wang. Every season it's my go-to line for sporty luxe separates and this Fall will be no exception. A simple colorway of white, black and oxblood made for a clean collection that still dazzled and dazed the audience. The modern flapper fringe dress was layered with a high collar jacket making it a cool fall appropriate way to layer. Boxy loose shapes made for a modern look and I love that it can conceal my curves post holiday overindulgence. Rich distressed burgundy leather had an old world charm and was a new color that I need to add to my ever-growing leather collection. And to keep the style sporty and sexy high slits were added to skirts and dresses so you can show off skin even if you're upper half is boxed in.
