So Shoe Me ~ 1/31/2012

Today's So Shoe Me is the PoPo Platforms by Jeffrey Campbell, $138, available at Edge of Urge. Jeffrey Campbell has become the king of rainbow styles since he recreated the iconic Judy Garland Yves St. Laurent rainbow soled shoe last spring and the PoPo is one of my favorite renditions with its super bright stripes of color and chunky on trend platform. Bringing back memories of the 70s and even those rainbow wedges from the 90s/early 2000s these statement making wedges are a welcome addition to a carefree summer style. Perfect for a bold and bright festival style or punching up neutrals this spring the PoPo is a budget friendly must have for SS12. Pair these chunky wedges with some super distressed light wash cutoffs, a loose vintage band tee and a colorful beaded necklace like this safety pin collar I recently DIY'ed would be the perfect finishing touch.

So Shoe Me a pair of bright and colorful soled wedges that will make your fun and fresh summer style the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I DIY FOR: Safety Pin Necklace

A few months ago I found inspiration in a safety pin statement necklace that I found on the MIA Shoes Facebook Page. Like most things I kept reminding myself to hunker down and start this project but as usual my procrastination got the best of me. This past week I finally took the time to buy materials at JoAnn Fabrics and got to work. While the process is super simple it's also super tedious but that also makes it more of an accomplishment when you finish this gorgeous statement piece. Check out the easy steps below and turn the most ordinary and budget friendly materials into a to "diy" for necklace.

*If you're not a big fan of DIY or just don't have the time I'm now offering this necklace on Etsy!*
Materials Used:

2 - 90ct Bags of Large Safety Pins
2 - Bags of X-Small Glass Beads
1 - Roll of 20 Gauge Copper Wire
2 - Lobster Claw Closures
2 - Metal "O" Rings

1) String Beads on Safety Pins

~ Purchase any beads of your liking. I used bright x-small glass beads but you can also use any color or size that appeals to you.
~ The easiest way to place the beads on is by throwing the beads in a bowl and using the safety pin to snatch up the beads in a random pattern (you could plan out a pattern but I like how the random pattern looks plus it's less time consuming/stressful).
~ Continue this process until all 180 (yes, that's 180!) safety pins are beaded.

2) Wire the Beaded Safety Pins

~ Take the 20 gauge copper wire and cut two 28-30" strips. These will be way too long but it's much easier to string the safety pins with extra slack.
~ First string one side of the safety pins and bend up each end of wire to hold them in place while you string the other side.
~ Double check to make sure all safety pins are threaded correctly before securing the lobster claw and metal "O" rings on each wire.

3) Secure Clasps

~ Secure the Lobster Clasps and metal "O" Rings with a needle nose pliers. And voile! You have a bold one of a kind statement necklace that you can brag about to friends, family and strangers.

4) Admire Your Work

~The overall look is a substantial beaded collar necklace with a boho/tribal feel. Perfect for a pop of color when paired with neutral knits this winter or with prints and colors during the summer. This necklace is also a great signature piece for festival season.
