WEARabouts: Art+Science Presents Art And Soul

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to attend  the Art and Soul event at Double Door (one of the many perks of being a Chicago Blogger Network member) featuring fashion, art and music all while supporting NADS (National Association for Down Syndrome). The show was presented by the innovative Chicago salon, Art+Science, who provided all the makeup and hair looks for the diverse and exciting four part fashion show. Elizabeth Hurley, Color Director at Art+Science, was king enough to offer some insight into the work that went on behind the scenes and the philanthropic work that her salon continues to provide.

Behind the scenes at Art+Science Salon as the Models get their coifs perfected for the fashion show.

Co-Owners Paul Wilson and David Raccuglia (founder of American Crew) bought the Art+Science salon fourteen years ago. Not only have Paul and David created a forward-thinking environment with leading hair stylists and colorists but the two have also continued to support charitable causes (for example, Art+Science lead the support for Habitat for Humanity after Katrina). After Paul and his wife Theresa were informed that their son, Emmit Kyoshi, was born with Down Syndrome they soon discovered the support and community at the NADS foundation. To give back to the foundation that delivered them so much support Art+Science hosted Art and Soul with proceeds going to this worthy foundation.

The silent auction with items from local businesses raised funds for NADS.

Michelle Anderson, self-advocate for NADS gave an inspiring presentation.
The night began with a silent auction, drinks and art which was followed by a four-part fashion show and live music by Purple Apple and Scott Lucas And The Married Men.

My look for the night. A mix of graphics with pops of plum worked well for the dark and edgy venue.

Thanks to Art+Science Salon and Chicago Blogger Network for allowing me to cover this event - I had a blast. And remember you can still make a donation to NADS by simply visiting their website. Have a happy holiday week!
