To prepare the perfect slightly distressed cutoffs, check out Step 1 in "I DIY FOR: Glow-In-The-Dark Aztec Cutoffs."
Turn ordinary denim shorts into an extraordinary cutoffs with heavy metal embellishments.
What You Will Need:
1 - High Waisted Denim Cutoffs
300 - Tall English 77 Cone Studs*
1- Ruler
1- Metal Flat Edged Tool For Closing Studs
*Depending on the size and shape of your cutoffs you may need more that 300 studs. I used 282 to cover a W US Size 6. I would recommend anyone over a W US size 8 purchase additional studs to completely cover your cutoffs.
I purchased my studs online via StudsandSpikes.com. They had the greatest variety and best prices I could find and shipping was convenient and fast. I high recommend buying your spikes through them. The stud I specifically used can be found here.
1) How To Apply Studs
~ Punch the stud through the denim. This can be easily done by hand with little to medium force due to the pierced edges on each stud.
~ With a heavy-duty flat metal tool (I used a wood carving tool, but you can also use something similar) push the metal tips 90 degrees on each side until they feel secure.
~ This process will be continued for applying all studs.
2) Stud Your Pattern
~ Create an even allover studded pattern by creating horizontal rows of spikes. You can go by eye or use a ruler. Keep in mind that with a pattern this stud heavy that it is more important to organically place the studs in the most pleasing spot to create the best possible style.
~ Continue to stud until you have completed the entire front.
3) Admire Your Work
~ After all your hard work studding these sick studded cutoffs you won't want to take them off!
~ Perfect for pairing with a crop bra top and kimono for a music fest or with a halfway tucked in white tee for a weekend out these studded gems with make a hard-edged statement with a signature fit.
