Fashion Weak For SS 2012

With another New York Fashion Week (officially known as Mercedes) behind us it's time to start reviewing the standout collections and apparent trends so that as spring approaches (yeah we still have to get through that whole "winter" thing) we're all prepared to invest in pieces that will keep us fashion forward and not looking like last year's "it" girl. With bright colors and print mixing still all the rage, punchy tropical prints, sportswear inspiration all around and details that aren't (mesh)ing around here are my top picks from NYFW for the Fashion Weak.

It was all about sporting good style at the Alex Wang SS12 show. With strong sportswear references such as perforated jackets, jumpsuits and gloves along with mesh accents, leather details and floral + futuristic tribal prints it was very much signature Wang style. Navy, burgundy, black, white and pops of brights made for a wearable color palette that will be easy to implement this coming spring.

Put a PEPlum in your step with Badgley Mischka's SS12 collection. A mix of bright saturated colors, dusty pastels and muted metallics made for a feminine collection that has me craving an upscale event to wear one of these divine designs to. Punches of statement making florals were seen and the body enhancing silhouettes were a girl's best friend. An emphasis on HIP style called for tons of peplums and attention getting crystal embellishments. One thing is for sure next spring, if looking for a new cocktail dress Badgley Mischka is your best bet.

Band of Outsiders brought the perfect balance of masculine and feminine. A neutral color story with extreme contrasts brought attention to the sharp menswear details. I especially love this crisp white shirt dress with a crisp black leather collar. It's definitely a four season piece that can be paired with denim blazers in the spring and a black tux jacket in the fall. Look to Band of Outsiders for effortless looks that will keep you in style this coming spring.

Cynthia Rowley mixed traditional florals with modern geometrics making for an unexpected collection of modern eclecticism. Strong separates that will complete a wardrobe and wearable dresses made for a long list of must have pieces this spring. With color, pattern and grounding neutrals there is truly something for everyone in the SS12 Cynthia Rowley Collection.

The epitome of downtown chic DKNY's SS12 collection was made for the modern day woman. Head to toe looks consisting of monochromatic color, pattern or print made for a signature look across the runway. A bold floral print in a patriotic red, white and blue would make for the perfect Memorial Day suit and a classic tweed pattern is brought to the 21st century in a sleek mix of purples. And a simple mid-lo hemline dress became a showstopper in monochromatic hot pink. For the woman of today DKNY brought must have pieces at every turn.

WU-HOO! Menswear mixed with feminine touches and a dash of neon made for a luxe collection of staple pieces and luxe collectibles for the modern woman. Short shorts mixed with conservative tops were a tasteful addition to the leg baring bottoms and a chic leather top with jeweled collar was a transitional piece that every woman could use. And for a wow factor the color was turned to the extreme in a neon greenevening gown that makes the ultimate statement in an elegant shape.

Jeremy Scott always puts on a good show. Never taking fashion too seriously his kitschy prints and over the top looks can easily be toned down and added to your spring wardrobe. The Pollyanna vibe with sweet pigtails and denim on denim looks could easily be broken up into separates for indie looks next festival season. Bringing a new meaning to the "potato sack dress" a glittering gold "Idaho" style graced the runway. And as anything clear intrigues me this patent and clear jacket caught my eye. As with every other season Jeremy Scott has a hold on the edgy statement piece market.

Only Marc Jacobs could make a plastic bag chic and that's exactly what he did. Transforming plastic into a shining star at his SS12 collection. Several outfit building separates were seen at the show in classic neutrals with accents of showstopping brights. Utilitarian shaped added a modern edge to classic accessories. Marc Jacobs once again proved that he truly is one of a kind.

Proenza Schouler showed off the SS12 trend of shorts suiting with flattering color and print pairings. A color banded raffia skirt injected the tropical vibe without a floral print. And on of the major attractions this NYFW were the vintage tropical prints that were seen within the last few looks of the show. It added a refreshing retro flare with pastel blues and vivid greens. For the perfect floral print next spring make sure to remember Proenza Schouler.

And that concludes my NYFW SS12 review. Maybe I'll even be there for FW12? ;)
