From the Red Carpet to Your Closet: Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett was fashion forward and still ladylike in a fresh and modern lilac and neon yellow Givenchy Haute Couture gown at the Oscars. Take a cue from Cate but in wearable summer pieces found here:

1) Pleated Halter Playdress, $68, Victoria's Secret
2) Highlighter-her Necklace, $24, ModCloth
3) Ledger Wedge, $90, Report Footwear

(red)dy to wear.

Red rocked the red carpet at last night's Oscars. I'm loving this bold and classic hue. And while Anne Hathaway IS wearing Haute Couture I still thought the title was cute. :P

So Shoe Me ~ 2/27/2011

Today's So Shoe Me is the Python Print Sandals by Marc Jacobs, $878, available at LUISAVIAROMA. A sleek wooden sandal gets a subtle exotic makeover with python printed leather straps and a snake wrapping around at the ankle. The monochromatic color scheme makes this sandal a sophisticated and wearable piece for the spring and summer and still makes a statement with its fun and edgy ankle wrapping snake detail. These Marc Jacobs beauties give off a confident style and even would pair well with a flowing "Greek Goddess" style gown. I would love to see these sandals paired with a minimalist color scheme and modern clean-lined shapes. Either a simple black or white maxi dress with a high slit (to show off the shoes of course) or a midi or mini length body con dress would be the perfect way to simply show off these signature sandals.

So Shoe Me a pair of seductive serpent heels that bring a modern edge to the more simplistic pieces in my closet.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Abstract, $365, by United Nude. This architectural wonder brings genius design and practical comfort. With every angle the Abstract gives a different look and becomes more than just a wedge, it's a piece of art. The high-contrast color blocking also highlights the details on this wonderfully modern wedge and makes it the perfect statement piece to wear throughout this spring and summer. Pair these shoes with a modern short jumper in either a bold color like coral or a neutral (navy would be a great unexpected color).

So Shoe Me a pair of sick architectural wedges that leave a huge punctuation on that statement!

Today's So Shoe Me is the Mega Bootie by Haus of Price, $335, available at Solestruck. Maybe it's the lingering high from all the glitz, glamour and color from New York Fashion Week but I've found myself falling in love with all things that have a luxe rainbow connection. These booties are painstakingly handmade by James Price and don't be fooled, this DIY job is not for amateurs. Placing each gem delicately onto this aptly named "Mega Bootie" makes for a dramatic fantasy piece perfect for a chic Pretty, Pretty Princess moment. Get intoxicated by the gems and pair these statement booties with simple clean separates like dark skinny jeans and a sheer boyfriend button-down to look like a chic and stylish woman instead of a caricature.

So Shoe Me a pair of jewelicious booties that will smack a neutral outfit into a technicolor dreamland.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Friends and Lovers Pump, AU$750, by Sass and Bide. While I am guaranteed to have an old Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris song in my head for at least the next hour it's worth it to gaze at these luxe copper heels. The copper heel plate is what makes this shoe go from ordinary to spectacular. It's a great bold accent that becomes refreshingly subtle when placed on the matching copper leather pump. Even though these pumps are special enough to stand on their own you can also pair them with a modern printed dress (think geometric prints in a warm rust and orange) and not look over styled. These shoes would also look great sitting on a coffee table or mantle, just add interior decor to the cost per wear and they're a bargain find!

So Shoe Me a pair of classically shaped copper pumps with a modern metal accent that make them a step above the rest.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Pandora by Surface to Air, $508, available at OAK. Warning: Not for the shoe hunting amateur. This super chunk of sky-high heel love has several style defining details but remains minimalist chic, so you can wear this statement shoe with almost anything. The most eye pleasing detail has to be the unexpected cylindrical heel, giving the Pandora a smooth modern appearance. A two inch platform makes the five and a half inch heel walkable while the multi-strap wrapped upper adds style and stability. Pair this monster of a shoe with a delicate chiffon dress to playoff of its strong design. I love this short and sheer olive colored dress by Antipodium or this maxi length orange dress by Shakuhachi both available at My Catwalk.

So Shoe Me a pair of powerful platform heels that add a loud minimalist detail to any outfit.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Dejana 2 Taffeta Pumps by Boutique 9, $140, available at ShopBop. Pink will be everywhere this spring and this vibrant bubble gum shade will work perfectly with hot pink or can transform into a neutral when pairing it with other brights. This pump had ladylike charm down pat with a feminine twisted front, luxe taffeta fabric, a dainty heel and of course the quintessential girly pink color. While these can go over-the-top prim and proper with a sophisticated dress you can also make these pumps modern by pairing with bright and simple modern separates. I would pair these with hot pink straight leg pants and a clean-lined chartreuse top for a fashion-forward modern mix of brights.

So Shoe Me a pair of elegant heels with super femme details that can go ladylike or, for a twist, can be styled with modern bright separates. Leaving me with multiple options and money well spent.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Ivory Suede Skate Bootie by Jeffrey Campbell available at Singer 22 ($186) and I Don't Like Mondays ($223). An architectural heel always steals my heart and these scroll designed wedges with ice skate inspiration make for a delicate colorway with strong design. The blonde wood heel mixed with a bright white leather upper is easy on the eye and more casual than bold contrasting shades. The Skate Bootie is great for walking since the platform wedge allows for less strain on your feet. These will also be the perfect pop of fun/crazy for just about any outfit but would pair well with a flowy mini dress with waist definition and a skirt that flares away from the body.

So Shoe Me a pair of wedge booties that become wearable art that give a loud statement but quiet the screams of sore feet with a comfortable platform wedge.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Calamari, $299, by Heavy Machine. I've always enjoyed a good calamari appetizer, but now I can indulge in a decadent finishing touch that satisfies more than any fried (and sometimes grilled) good. The simplistic design and two-tone nude colorway with the slightest hint of red might seem like a subtle nondescript shoe. But add some unexpected 3-D elements to the strappy upper and a futuristic cut-out heel and you have one gorgeous statement shoe! The fresh nude color elongates legs and pairs well with casual or dressed up occasions making the Calamari a justifiable splurge. Heavy Machine also prides itself in making comfortable heels so you won't have heel remorse after hour number two in these signature shoes. Pair these with a pair of relaxed peg leg black pants, a silk tank and relaxed boyfriend jacket for an easy, yet sophisticated look.

So Shoe Me a pair of subtle statement shoes that let their fresh architectural design become the focus and do not make you choose style over comfort.

Today's So Shoe Me is the Nyle Sandal by Dolce Vita, $58, available at Need Supply. I love that this sandal is a simple everyday flat, yet makes a bold statement with warm coral, cool turquoise and is grounded by creamy nude. The color blocked beading in an ethnic-inspired pattern which remains casual but also adds some interest to what could easily be another boring sandal. Pair these with light-wash cut-off jean shorts and a vintage graphic tee or for a more dressed up look pair this with a brightly colored solid or printed romper.

So Shoe Me a pair of brightly beaded sandals that will become a stylish summer staple.

Today's So Shoe Me is this cutout heel in Jade, $29, from Forever 21. I love highlighting bargain brands every now and then to show that it isn't about purchasing the most expensive pieces that make great style, it's about skillfully putting together your look and creating a eye-pleasing thoughout wardrobe. This spring we all need to add some color into our wardrobe and this understated blue fits the bill. The color is subdued enough to pair with another bright (red, purple or even a green print would be fab) but is also bright enough to pop against other neutrals. Pair these shoes with bright, printed or textural tights and a a-line flouncy mini dress for a signature look in cooler weather.

So Shoe Me a pair of affordable heels that bring me a stylish shape and a pop of color.
